Vyacheslav Shevchuk, sports director of Veresa in Rivne, told about his brother, who was taken prisoner at the end of May last year along with other defenders of Mariupol Azovstal - he was released on December 31.
"Before the war, my brother was the head of the border detachment in Mariupol. So when the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation began, his detachment together with the Azovstal defenders defended Mariupol. Not only the Azov regiment was there, but also police officers and border guards.
What my brother went through was four months surrounded. Every day you were fighting back, defending the city, Ukraine. Then, when there was an agreement, the Azovstal defenders surrendered. My brother did not want to go for it, but eventually they surrendered. And then he was in captivity for 7 months, changing several colonies...
My brother doesn't want to talk about it, but he is a Hero of Ukraine.
After returning to Ukraine, he was in hospital for 2-3 weeks, there was no way without it. Before the war my brother weighed 84 kilograms, but now he weighs 58," Shevchuk said in a comment on Youtube channel "Trendets".
