In the 71st minute a penalty was awarded to Benfica, which Joao Mario easily converted, making the score 4-0. 74 minutes into the match, Club Brugge KV made two substitutions: H. Vanaken and M. Riets came on instead of Clinton Mata and R. Jaremchuk. Benfica also made two substitutions: Morato replaced N. Otamendi and Joao Neves came on instead of Joao Mario. In the 75th minute, C. Sova came on for Brugge instead of A. Nous, but it did little to stop the onslaught. In the 77th minute, D. Neres scored Benfica's fifth goal of the match, making the game unattainable for Club Brugge KV. Club Brugge KV managed to score a consolation goal when B. Meyer scored in the 87th minute, but it was too little and too late. Benfica made one last substitution in the 88th minute: Antonio Silva replaced Lucas Verissimo. The match ended in a resounding victory for Benfica, who showed a masterclass in attacking soccer. This victory will undoubtedly give the hosts a much-needed boost ahead of future matches in the UEFA Champions League.
