Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of the FIFA Refereeing Committee, proposed a new soccer rule. The legendary referee believes that sometimes compensatory time makes no sense at all.
Collina came up with the idea after an APL match between Liverpool and Manchester United (7-0), in which Jurgen Klopp's team won by a margin of seven goals.
"Perhaps in the future we will have a rule that if the difference between the two teams is too big, extra time is not given at all. But that needs to be clearly spelled out in the rules. It seems reasonable, but only when it doesn't affect anything.
You can understand when in an ordinary championship game when the score is 0-7, extra time will have no consequences. But in some competitions, the goal difference can be decisive for the final allocation of places. So even one goal scored or not scored can make a difference," Collina said.
