The current owner of the club, Qatari functionary Abdullah Al-Thani, has to pay 9 million euros to the court to buy back the seized 51% of the shares and be able to sell them. Several years ago, an international arrest warrant was issued for Al-Thani on charges of money laundering, embezzlement and maladministration.

This season, Malaga is playing in the Spanish Segunda. After the 31st round, the team ranks 20th in the standings, which could lead to relegation.
