The new head coach of the team, Luis de la Fuente, was guided by the number of matches played for the national team when choosing the captain. Among the players who were included in Furia Roja's application for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Norway and Scotland, Morata has the most matches (61). Rodri (39) and Daniel Carvajal (33) will receive the status of vice-captain.

It will be recalled that the former captain of the Spanish national team Sergio Busquets ended his international career after the 2022 World Cup
