Malta head coach Michele Marcolini commented on the defeat in the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Italy (0:2).
"I can't be happy because my team lost. To be honest, the quality of the players on the field was radically different.
We immediately forced Donnarumma to make a miracle, but then, unfortunately, we conceded from a corner. This made the match even more difficult than it could have been. The guys continued to do what I asked them to do, which is to be brave. It is quite natural that this becomes impossible after an early goal against such a great team, but my players had the right attitude. Italy is Italy, it was like climbing Mount Everest for us and at the end of the day we put in a good performance," Marcolini was quoted as saying by Football Italia.
