RB Leipzig hosted the FSV Mainz 05 at the Red Bull Arena in a Bundesliga match that turned out to be one-sided. The final score 0:3 in favor of the guests reflected their complete dominance in the game. The first goal of the match came early in the 9th minute when Mateta Ingvartsen scored against FSV Mainz 05. They maintained their lead despite attempts by RB Leipzig to equalize. RB Leipzig's disappointment became clear when Kevin Kampl received a yellow card in the 37th minute. Their attempts to turn the game were further hampered when Marcel Halstenberg was substituted for D. Raum and Kampl was substituted for A. Haidara early in the second half. The substitution did little to change the course of the game as FSV Mainz 05 continued to dominate. In the 57th minute, L. Adjork added another goal to Mainz's lead, pushing RB Leipzig further into the background.
Yellow cards were generously handed out: RB Leipzig's D. Olmo and V. Orban, as well as Mainz's A. Kachi and M. Ingvartsen, received warnings at various points in the game. Despite RB Leipzig's attempts to get back into the game, FSV Mainz 05 kept frustrating them. In the 67th minute, D. Kor scored another goal for Mainz, strengthening their position in the game. Substitutions were made frequently and quickly as both teams sought to make a difference. J. Guardiol replaced M. Simakan in the 71st minute for RB Leipzig, while FSV Mainz 05 made three substitutions in a row: M. Ingvartsen, S. Widmer and A. Stach were replaced by A. Barkok, D. da Costa , and Lee Jae-sun, respectively. RB Leipzig's K. Laimer replaced L. Klostermann in the 81st minute, but it was too late. FSV Mainz 05 ended the dominant game with two more substitutions in the 88th and 90th minutes when A. Kachi and L. Ayork were replaced by A. Martin and D. Burgzorg. The final score of 0:3 in favor of FSV Mainz 05 was a convincing victory that brought them three valuable points in the Bundesliga. RB Leipzig will have to regroup and rethink their strategy if they hope to turn their season around.
In the next round, the opponents are waiting for such matches: Hertha - RB Leipzig, Mainz - Werder Bremen.
