According to The Times, the Blues' defeat against Tottenham forced Todd Bowley and company to start thinking about alternatives. At the time, there was no obvious candidate to replace Graham Potter, so the coach was given a little more time.

It will be recalled that Lampard's first cadence at Chelsea ended in January 2021 after 18 months of work.
