The goal was scored by P. Frankowski, who showed great footwork to bypass the Strasbourg defense and put the ball in the net. Bellegarde was shown a yellow card in the 23rd minute, further aggravating their situation. The first half ended 0-0 in favor of Lens. However, it was not without drama as just before the break S. Abdul Samed of Lens was suspended for a yellow card. The second half began with Strasbourg making two substitutions on 61 minutes. X Diarra and Sissoko came on instead of S. Prcic and J. Aholu, respectively, in an attempt to turn the game.

Lens continued to dominate the match, and in the 67th minute coach Frank Hees made two substitutions. A. Fulgini and F. Sotoka came on instead of A. Claude-Maurice and M. Haidara respectively, as Lens looked to further strengthen their position. Strasbourg made a third substitution in the 71st minute, releasing C. Gameiro in place of J. Bellegarde. Lens also made a third substitution in the 78th minute: A. Thomasson came on instead of D. Costa. Strasbourg were not going to give up without a fight and were finally rewarded when C. Gameiro scored in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit to one point. M. Sanson and I. Doucouré were replaced by L. Motibou and L. Perrin, respectively, as Strasbourg tried to put pressure on Lens in the latter stages of the game. However, Strasbourg's chances of a comeback were severely damaged when H. Diallo received a red card in the 90th minute. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Lens, which made Strasbourg coach Julien Stephan regret his team's missed chances in this game. Overall, it was an exciting match in which Lens got a well-deserved victory. The match showed excellent soccer skills and was a testament to the quality of Ligue 1 soccer.
