However, it was FC Koln who drew first blood, scoring a goal from E. Schiri in the 7th minute, putting pressure on the home team. In the 16th minute, Augsburg doubled their lead thanks to a great goal by E. Martel. However, Augsburg kept their determination and kept pushing forward. Their efforts paid off on 29 minutes when R. Vargas scored the hosts' first goal, reviving their hopes. Iago, who already had a yellow card, earned another suspension in the 45th minute, risking his team's chances of getting back in the game. Koln FC led 2-1 at halftime, but both teams still had chances to turn the game in their favor. The second half began with the replacement of B. Schmitz by D. Ljubicic on 46th minute. Augsburg player A. Engels was given a yellow card on 56 minutes and Koln took advantage of the momentum and scored the third goal in 59th minute through L. Maina. As the game entered its final stages, Augsburg replaced R. Vargas with N. Mbuku in the 71st minute, while Koln FC introduced J. Tilmann instead of L. Maina and M. Olesen instead of F. Kainz in the 79th minute. The match was not without suspensions: T. Hubers and E. Schiri were awarded yellow cards in the 72nd and 84th minutes respectively. In the 80th minute N.J. Sarenren Baze replaced A. Engels as Augsburg looked to get back into the game. FC Koln made their fifth and last substitution in the 87th minute: K. Schindler replaced L. Kilian. Despite all the efforts of Augsburg, FC Koln won 3-1, with the first goal being the decisive one. Both teams certainly gave it their all in this fierce Bundesliga encounter that will long be remembered by the fans.
