Famous coach and expert Oleh Fedorchuk spoke about the peculiarities of the career of Oleksandr Karavayev, a versatile player at Dynamo Kyiv.
- Every footballer develops a certain functionality by the time he or she matures, that is, something that distinguishes him or her. Karavayev has always been distinguished by his quick release on the counterattack. But at that time Tsygankov was playing for Dynamo, so Karavaev was used on the other flank, and then, due to the shortage of defenders in both the national team and Dynamo, he was used as a right back. However, no matter how hard you try, everyone has their own capabilities - Karavaev is not good at selection, and he also has problems with his heading. Dynamo needs a more reliable defender. To put it in one phrase, he has become a victim of his universalization. When a player plays in different positions, it is good for the team for a period of time, but for the player himself it can lead to consequences, that he is supposedly good, but if we talk thoroughly about a particular role, there are questions.
Somewhere you can draw parallels with Zinchenko, who was thrown everywhere - in the center, on the right, as a defender, as a midfielder. And he also suffers from this, because every footballer reveals himself in the position that is inherent in him by nature. We can also mention Volodymyr Bezsonov, who won the Golden Ball at the 1977 Junior World Cup as an attacking forward, and then Lobanovsky began to use him in different positions - as a fullback and right back. He helped the team a lot with that, but I don't think his career suffered because of it.
As for Karavayev's future prospects, it's hard to give any advice. One could immediately say Turkey. But he has already been there, and this experience was unsuccessful. Most likely, it will be either the Greek or Cypriot championships. Another thing is whether the player himself is psychologically ready for this, as he is no longer a young footballer, plus Dynamo has a younger generation, the club has already delayed the rejuvenation of the squad," the expert said.
