After a public memorial service and farewell to Pavlo Shkapenko, a famous football player of Dynamo Kyiv in the 1990s who passed away on April 17 at the age of 50, Dynamo president Ihor Surkis shared his memories of him:
- Pavlo Shkapenko was one of the players who had a great impact on the team's performance. We all remember how he scored against Barcelona. I perfectly understand Viktor Leonenko, who said that Shkapenko gave his all to the Dynamo team. Therefore, the news of his death, which we received a few days ago, is truly tragic.
I respected Pasha a lot, he was a man who led the team. He may not have been as visible on the field, but from the first to the last minute, both under Sabo's leadership and after Valery Lobanovsky came in, he did everything possible to make the team win.
- You said that he played very well with his head. It was his strong point...
- He not only played with his head. He had his head on his shoulders. He played very well in general. He was a man who put football first.
- Speaking of human qualities, what did you remember about Pavlo?
- He was kind, and he had very good relations with everyone in the team. That's why Pasha is a person we will remember. He is a person who made a great contribution to the Dynamo Kyiv team.
