Well-known journalist Viktor Vatsko spoke about the temporary replacement of Mircea Lucescu with Oleksandr Shovkovskyi as the head of Dynamo Kyiv.
- "After the match against Shakhtar, Mircea Lucescu announced that he was going on sick leave - he needed surgery. First of all, I would like to wish Lucescu a speedy recovery so that this surgery goes smoothly. Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, who has recently joined the coaching staff of Dynamo Kyiv, has now been appointed acting head coach.
In this context, I recall 2014, when Serhiy Rebrov was appointed acting head coach by Ihor Surkis at the end of the season after Oleh Blokhin was fired. Back then, Igor Mikhailovich was advised and wooed by various coaches, including foreigners. "Dynamo was economically very powerful and could afford many people, but Surkis made his choice: he gave Rebrov a chance, and Serhiy won the Ukrainian Cup, and later won two championship titles with this team, the Ukrainian Cup and the Ukrainian Super Cup again.
Several people told me on the sidelines that the Surkis brothers do not see Oleksandr Shovkovskyi as the future head coach of Dynamo Kyiv. I, as they say, did not hold a candle to that. But this chance may become a moment of truth for Oleksandr Shovkovskyi and an impetus for his independent coaching career. I am really interested to see whether the absolute legend and long-time captain of Dynamo Kyiv will cope with this new challenge in his career," Vatsko said on his YouTube channel.
