Krauss was yellow-carded in the 66th minute, while Werder Bremen's J. Stage and M. Veljkovic received yellow cards earlier in the match. In the second half, both teams made substitutions to try and change the game.

Werder Bremen made two substitutions in the 67th and 76th minutes, while FC Schalke 04 made three substitutions in the 74th, 75th and 87th minutes. It was S. van den Berg of FC Schalke 04 who scored in the 81st minute, kick-starting the home side's comeback. Despite receiving a yellow card in the 85th minute, van den Berg was able to help his team to victory, scoring a last-minute goal in the 90th minute, assisted by D. Drexler. Overall, the match was a hard-fought affair, with both teams showing strong defensive performance.
