The Spanish club Girona, which is represented by Ukrainian midfielder Viktor Tsygankov, may be banned from European competitions.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Girona risks not being licensed by UEFA if it gets into the European competitions for the next season.
It is reported that the reason for this is the following: the club is part of the City Football Group sports holding, where Manchester City is considered the main team. Since UEFA prohibits clubs belonging to the same business pool from participating in the same European Cup campaign, Girona's participation may be in doubt.
On the other hand, there have been previous precedents when clubs managed to convince UEFA of their legal "cleanliness" and were granted the right to play in European competitions. For example, in the 2017/2018 season, Leipzig and Salzburg entered international competitions together for the first time. They proved to UEFA that Red Bull is just a sponsor of both clubs, not a management company.
As a reminder, Girona is currently ranked 8th in the Spanish league standings.
