The first half was a tense affair, with neither team able to get a shot on target despite several good opportunities. The score was 0-0 at the break and the second half saw both teams looking for the break. Napoli started the second half with three substitutions, releasing J. Lozano, G. Raspadori and D. Demme in place of K. Kvaratskhelia, P. Zielinski and S. Lobotka. Fiorentina also made a substitution at half-time: Dodo came on in place of L. Venuti. The second half got off to a dramatic start: On 48 minutes, a penalty kick was awarded to Napoli. However, V. Osimhen missed the spot-kick, much to the disappointment of Napoli's fans.
In the 66th minute, Fiorentina made two substitutions, replacing G. Bonaventura and A. Duncan with G. Castrovilli and R. Mandragora. This seemed to give more momentum to Fiorentina's attack and they started to create more chances. Napoli's game changed in the 74th minute when a penalty kick was awarded to the visitors, and this time V. Osimhen made no mistake. This allowed Napoli to take the lead and take a commanding lead for the remainder of the match. Fiorentina responded with two more substitutions in the 75th minute with S. Amrabat and R. Sottila instead of K. Kouame and R. Saponara. Napoli also made two more substitutions, replacing G. Simeone with V. Osimhen in the 78th minute and E. Elmas with A. Zerbin in the 84th minute. Despite a late pressure from Fiorentina, Napoli held on to a one-goal lead to clinch the decisive win. The final score was 1-0 to Napoli, much to the delight of the fans who celebrated the victory at the Stadio Diogo Armando Maradona.
