West Ham United face AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League at the London Stadium. AZ Alkmaar took the lead in the first half thanks to a T. Reynders goal in the 42nd minute and the score was 0-1 at the break. The game was fairly even in terms of possession and chances created, but it was the Dutch side that managed to convert one of their opportunities. The situation heated up in the second half with both teams keen to score goals. West Ham's L. Paquette was awarded yellow cards in the 57th minute, along with J. Clasie and M. Ryan of AZ Alkmaar in the 58th and 65th minutes, respectively. On 67 minutes, West Ham took a penalty-kick, which was calmly converted by S. Benrahma to level the score at 1-1. The stadium erupted into shouts of joy, and the hosts breathed a sigh of relief knowing they were still in the game.
Just fourteen minutes into the match, M. Antonio scored West Ham's winning goal, picking up a clever pass and firing it past the Dutch goalkeeper. The crowd cheered as West Ham took the lead for the first time in the match. Both teams made substitutions in the final minutes to try and change the outcome of the game. Я. Odgaard replaced M. Lahdo for AZ Alkmaar in the 68th minute, while West Ham released D. Ings in place of M. Antonio in the 79th minute. AZ Alkmaar also made a substitution, releasing M. van Brederode in place of D. Mihajlovic in the 79th minute. West Ham's final substitution: in the 90th minute, S. Benrahma was replaced by P Fornals. The game ended 2-1 in favour of West Ham United, to the delight of the home side's fans. It was a tough win for the English team, but they managed to take the lead and clinch all three points in the Europa League of the UEFA Conference.
