In a tense Premier League match, Aston Villa defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Villa Park. In the first half, Aston Villa took the lead thanks to a brilliant goal from J. Ramsey in the eighth minute. Shortly before the half-hour mark, Jay McGinn received a yellow card for an improper challenge. Tottenham tried to respond but found it difficult to break through Aston Villa's defence. Skipp received a yellow card in the 53rd minute which denied his team a chance to get back into the game.
Tottenham then made two quick substitutions, releasing Yu. Bissouma and D. Kulusevski on 61 and 62 minutes respectively. Tottenham attempted a late surge and a penalty was awarded in the 90th minute. H. Kane kept his composure and scored from the spot, but it was too late for the visitors. In the final minutes of the game, both teams made a flurry of substitutions. P. Porro came on for Tottenham in the 81st minute and B. Davies replaced J. Perisic in the compensatory time.
