Lacazette scored an excellent goal in the 22nd minute to put his team in front. However, their advantage was short-lived. Just three minutes later, G. Chiei of Clermont Foote was awarded a penalty, which resulted in his team tying the score in the 25th minute. In the remainder of the first half, both teams had an equal number of chances but the score remained unchanged at half-time. Clermont Foote took the lead, and on 65 minutes, G. Kiei scored his second goal of the match. This goal put the team back in front and gave them confidence. Lyon tried to get back into the game but failed to get a shot on goal.
Both teams continued to make substitutions and in the 69th minute Clermont Foote released M. Schama in place of S. Howie. Lyon replaced Jefinho with A. Sarra and S. Koumbedi for M. Gusto in the 65th minute, hoping to change the course of the game. However, this was not enough for a draw and Clermont Foote held their advantage. With the match drawing to a close, the referee awarded several yellow cards to both teams with Lyon's Castello Luceba receiving a yellow card in the 73rd minute and Elbasan Rashani and K. Andric of Clermont Foote receiving yellow cards in the 90th minute. Lyon's Nicolas Tagliafico and Anthony Lopes also received yellow cards in the 84th and 90th minutes respectively.
