Lukaku on the 2022 World Cup: "I let my country down"

Inter Milan and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku recalled his emotions after the team's exit from the 2022 World Cup. The Belgians failed to overcome the group stage, and the star forward missed several good opportunities to score in the decisive match against Croatia (0:0).

"The World Cup was very difficult for me. For the first time in 15 years of playing football, I experienced such a moment. I let my country down. Defending the colours of the national team is an incredible feeling, and when you play at the World Cup, you want to achieve as much as possible.

All the players and staff knew that this was our last chance. And to go out the way we did... I took everything into my head when I left the national team and it was really disappointing," CBS Sports quoted Lukaku as saying.
