It was a thrilling match between Girona and Villarreal in La Liga, played at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi stadium. At half-time, the score was tied at 1-1, but Villarreal eventually won 2-1. Villarreal started the game with a win, scoring in the 9th minute thanks to an outstanding strike from Jeremy Pino. However, he received a yellow card in the 23rd minute. But Girona's David Lopez was not far behind and just a minute later, in the 24th minute, he equalised for his team. In the remaining minutes of the first half, both teams fought fiercely, but neither could break the deadlock. In the second half, Girona received a yellow card in the 55th minute and this time Lopez was cautioned. Soon after, in the 59th minute, Girona made two substitutions: T. Castellanos replaced C. Stuani and D. Lopez was replaced by I. Herrera.
Villarreal followed suit with three substitutions in the 62nd and 63rd minutes: R. Terrats, S. Chukwueze and A. Pedraza replaced G. Lo Celso, G. Moreno and A. Moreno respectively. A fourth substitution for Villarreal - J. Voigt replaced Kiko in the 68th minute. Girona also made two more substitutions in the 72nd and 78th minutes: Y. Couto replaced Reinier and M. Gutiérrez came on in place of J. Hernández. The match was very competitive, with both teams exchanging a few moves and chances throughout the second half. Girona's efforts were cut short when Herrera received a yellow card in the 71st minute. In the 80th minute, Villarreal replaced I. Pino, their leading scorer, with M. Trigueros. It proved to be a brilliant decision, as just ten minutes later Gerard Moreno scored against Villarreal, dashing Girona's hopes of victory. Overall, it was a fantastic match, with both teams giving it their all. However, substitutions in Villarreal proved to be the deciding factor in the second half, allowing them to pull out a crucial win.
