Today, the UPL clubs have made another attempt to create a single TV pool for broadcasting matches of the Ukrainian championship, assures broadcaster Igor Burbas.
"At the meeting of clubs today no one categorically opposed the creation of UPL-TV. So far everyone is in favour of it in words. The ideologists are Shakhtar and Rukh. The latter even tried to allow the media to stream the meeting online. Other clubs did not support this initiative, so everything continued behind closed doors.
The concept of UPL-TV is to create their own OTT platform from scratch, which will show the games. The broadcast costs should be borne by the clubs. The figure voiced at the meeting was $6,500 per match, that is $100,000 per season for each club. For some this is a significant part of the budget. So much so that two of them even threw in phrases that they were prepared to give up showing matches if it was a losing story.
But in its first season, UPL-TV hopes to break even. Through monthly paid subscriptions. That is the profitable part. It can be supplemented with advertising. That is, each club receives the right to individually attract sponsors for their own broadcasts.
At the meeting there were representatives of 16 clubs - 14 from the current UPL season, as well as two newcomers. "Metalist and Lviv do not bother with the fate of the TV pool, but Polesie and Obolon are already in the process. Mostly the managers/vice presidents have been delegated to the meeting. Only "Zaria" was personally represented by the owner - Eugene Geller. They took a week to deliberate. Then they will continue discussions to make a final decision", a source writes on his Telegram channel.
