Fans on both sides of the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero stadium were in for a tense game as Elche and Sevilla met in a La Liga match. With both teams coming up to the game tied, the match should have been an exciting one. The game got off to a strong start, with Sevilla's Erik Lamela scoring the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, much to the delight of the fans. However, their joy was short-lived as, after just eight minutes, Papa Gueye was shown a red card, leaving Sevilla in the penalty box. Elche took advantage of the situation to level the scores on 25 minutes thanks to a Tete Morente goal. As the game went on, tensions rose. At half-time, Elche fielded N. Merkau and A. Collado, while Sevilla made their first substitution, replacing Lamela with N. Gudel on 55 minutes.
Fernando and J. Navas of Sevilla each received a yellow card in the 60th and 63rd minutes respectively, before Elche made another substitution in the 66th minute, replacing L. Boye and R. Nteka with P. Milla and E. Ponce. Sevilla responded with two substitutions of their own, substituting G. Montiel in place of Navas in the 70th minute and I. Rakitic in place of Fernando in the 71st minute. In the 72nd minute, Elche made a fourth substitution, replacing Fidel with R. Guti, and a minute later Sevilla's L. Bade was given a yellow card. In the 78th minute, Elche's P. Milla was given a yellow card, and in the 79th minute Sevilla made two more substitutions, replacing Y. En-Nesiri was replaced by R. Mir and M. Acuna by B. Gil. Elche immediately responded by letting in Josan in place of P. Lirola. In the final minutes of the game, in the 90th minute, Sevilla player B. Gil received a yellow card, recording a 1-1 draw. Both teams left the pitch with one point, with Sevilla likely to regret the missed opportunities, playing in the minority for most of the match. Nevertheless, it was an exciting game of football that showcased the talent and skill of both teams.
