Brentford forward Ivan Toney has been suspended for eight months.
This comes after a court found the player guilty of betting on sports. Out of 262 bets, 13 were placed on his team's defeat. However, Tooney was originally facing a 15-month suspension. The decision to reduce the sentence was influenced by the fact that Ivan was diagnosed with gambling addiction - a pathological addiction to gambling.
In addition, there is no evidence that the forward was able to influence the outcome of any of the thirteen games on which he bet, as the player was not involved in those games. Tooney has also shown "sincere remorse".
In the current season, Tooney has played 35 games for Brentford in all competitions, in which he has scored 21 goals and five assists. He is only allowed to return to training with his club during the final four months of his suspension, starting on 17 September 2023.
