The match between Union Berlin and Werder Bremen at the An der Alten Försterje stadium in the Bundesliga was a thrilling one and ended 1-0 in favour of Union Berlin. The first half was goalless despite numerous attempts by both teams, but the second half saw a lot of action. In the 10th minute, a penalty was awarded to Union Berlin, but the referee cancelled it out. Janik Haberer was involved in the incident. On 24 minutes, Werder Bremen made their first substitution: M. Philipp was replaced by N. Schmidt. As the first half drew to a close, Union Berlin's Aissa Laidouni was given a yellow card in the 45th minute. The second half started with another yellow card for Werder Bremen in the 49th minute, this time it went to Maximilian Philipp. On 61 minutes, Werder Bremen made their second substitution: A. Jung substituted L. Buchanan in an attempt to turn the game around.
Union Berlin responded with two quick substitutions on 63 minutes: S. Michelle came on as the substitute for J. Haberer. Xavier and P. Seguin came on in place of A. Laidouni. Jiri Pavlenka (Werder Bremen) received a yellow card in the 68th minute, followed by another yellow card for Leonardo Bittencourt in the 71st minute. With pressure mounting, Union Berlin made their third and fourth substitutions in the 78th and 79th minutes respectively, with J. Juranovic replacing K. Trimmel and J. Sibatcheu replacing K. Behrens. The crowd exploded in the 81st minute when Union Berlin finally broke through with a goal from R. Khedira. This sent the home fans into a frenzy as they cheered on their team. Werder Bremen made one last substitution in the 86th minute: E. Dinci replaced I. Gruev, but it was too little and too late. The game ended on a high note: Union Berlin won 1-0, to the delight of their fans. It was a good match and Union Berlin deserved to win thanks to their exceptional play in the second half.
