In an exciting Serie A match, Sassuolo hosted Fiorentina at the MAPEI - Città del Tricolore stadium. The score was 0-0 at half-time but Fiorentina led a flurry of goals in the second half, bringing the final score to 1-3. The game started with aggressive play from both teams, who were hoping to take the lead. In the 7th minute, Fiorentina's A. Terzic was given a yellow card for a foul. Sassuolo's D. Berardi was also shown the yellow card in the 32nd minute for a similar offence. A minute later, Fiorentina's L Ranieri was also shown the yellow card. As the first half drew to a close, tensions began to build and in the 45th minute, Fiorentina's K. Kouame was shown the yellow card. The second half began with Sassuolo making a substitution. J.M. Ferrari was replaced by F. Romagna on 46 minutes.
However, after a minute, Fiorentina took the lead thanks to an assist from Abraham Cabral who netted the opening goal of the match. Sassuolo was awarded the yellow card in the 55th minute: R. Tressoldi fouled his opponent. Fiorentina then made two substitutions: C. Kouame was replaced by N. Gonzalez on 57 minutes and A. Duncan was replaced by G. Bonaventura on 58 minutes. Sassuolo also quickly made three substitutions: E.K. Seyde was replaced by G. Defrel, N. Bayrami was replaced by M. Lopez and A. Pinamonti was replaced by R. Marchizza. In the 70th minute, Fiorentina player A. Cabral received another yellow card and Sassuolo were awarded a penalty, which D. Berardi scored from the flying goal. Fiorentina then made two more substitutions: Dodo was replaced by L. Venuti and J. Ikona replaced R. Saponara. After a few minutes following these substitutions, Fiorentina scored their second goal of the match: on 79 minutes, R. Saponara headed the ball home. In the 82nd minute, Sassuolo received another yellow card and R. Tressoldi was sent off with a red card. Fiorentina also made one last substitution: S. Amrabat replaced A. Bianco. In the 83rd minute, Fiorentina scored their third goal of the match and N. Gonzalez sealed the win. Sassuolo made one last substitution, replacing D. Berardi with M. Maldur, but it was too little and too late for the home side. The match ended with Sassuolo player Rogerio being sent off with a red card in the 88th minute and R. Marcizza receiving a yellow card in the 90th minute. Fiorentina won a convincing 3-1 victory.
