Every day the war takes away the bravest. Unfortunately, we received terrible news from the frontline about Ukrainian footballer Mykola Zhidkov.
The Ukrainian sports community has suffered another irreparable loss. The player, who traded his career in Poland to defend his homeland, returned from the front on a shield.
Former Wężanka Wielkopolska footballer Mykola Żydkow was killed in the war, the club's press service reported. The warrior was only 22 years old.
"When he took the field, he fought for his team's victory until his last breath, and when it came to fighting for the freedom of his country, he sacrificed what a person could have at such a young age - his own life. You will be missed. We will never forget," the statement reads.
The Ukrainian has been playing in Poland since 2018. He played for Wężanka from 2020 to 2022. After the start of the full-scale invasion, Mykola suspended his football career and returned to Ukraine, where he defended our country to the last.
