Well-known journalist Mykola Nesenyuk has commented on the appointment of Serhiy Rebrov as head coach of the Ukrainian national team.
"Actually, there is no mystery in the appointment of Serhii Rebrov as the coach of the national team of Ukraine. Everyone, including players and coaches, knew about this appointment a year ago. And there were no objections to this appointment - Rebrov is the only Ukrainian coach who has confirmed his qualifications in Europe. Similarly, no one expected him to rush to Ukraine after receiving an invitation to the national team, terminating his Arab contract and losing several million.
The mystery is different - why was it necessary to keep silent and deny the obvious for a whole year? This is not the way of football gentlemen. We have hundreds of examples of famous coaches and players who informed us in advance about their upcoming team change and then diligently finalised their contracts.
I think that the previous national team coach, Oleksandr Petrakov, would have been more comfortable working last year knowing that he would be replaced by Serhii Rebrov officially, not by hearsay. The same goes for the players. Perhaps the frankly caricatured assignment to lead the national team in the game against England, which was given to Ruslan Rotan, would not have looked so clumsy then.
It seemed that now there would be no more mysteries - the contract with Rebrov was solemnly signed. But the amount of the contract is classified. From whom? From UEFA, where this contract is registered? Or from "investigators" who will definitely be "leaked" the amount of the contract or have already been "leaked" by good people around the football authorities?
Why do we need these mysteries, rumours and gossip around Rebrov and the national team? Isn't it possible to work openly, as is customary in the civilised world, where we strive so much? I am sure it would be better for Rebrov, the national team and our football. I want us to cheer for them sincerely and without any mystery!" Neseniuk wrote on his Facebook page.
