Former Ukraine national team defender Bogdan Shershun shared his impressions of the Ukrainian championship.
- It is clear that there has been a big decline in football in our country because of the war. Thank God that in general it passed in our country. "I think Shakhtar won the championship deservedly, beating Zorya and Dnipro-1 at the end of the championship. It was unfortunate that the game with Dnipro 1 ended in such a way - with a fight between the teams.
- So you believe that Shakhtar are deserving champions?
- Of course. Shakhtar were stronger in terms of the game and in tournament matters, the team took the most points.
- And Zorya?
- "Zorya" surprised with a brilliant game, and the coach Patrick van Leeuwen, showed great performance. So that Zorya`s third place is also well-deserved.
- What happened to "Dnipro-1"?
- What happened? The team was strong by the standards of the Ukrainian Premier League. As far as I'm concerned, they played well.
- Yes. But after the first part of the championship it was "Dnipro-1" that many people considered to be the main contender for the gold medals?
- Who did? Not personally, I had a different opinion. Yes, they beat all the opponents in the first round, but after all, the championship is long. And you have to go this whole tournament distance without a hitch.
- The situation with "Dnipro-1" reminds you the situation that occurred with the London "Arsenal"?
- Yes, it does. The domestic championship is a long distance, Arsenal and Dnipro-1 lacked stability in the game, and maybe even the level.
- What was wrong with Dynamo?
- There are a lot of young lads in Dynamo. I think that was their problem. They should have strengthened a little in the off-season, then the team could have had a different result.
- Has this championship opened new players for you? Who got your attention?
- I personally liked Dynamo's Vanat, especially the way he looked in the second round. At Shakhtar Sudakov and Bondarenko have played this season at a high level.
- What can you say about centre-backs, a subject close to your heart?
- I have not seen such a player to surprise me.
