Liverpool footballer Cody Gakpo commented on how he managed to adapt to the position of a centre forward in the Merseyside side.
"Now that I'm playing for Liverpool, I'm convinced that I'm a good fit as a striker. Guus Hiddink was the first to realise this. When he was at PSV as a consultant, he saw me play and said: "You have to be a striker or a false nine". I didn't want to believe it at the time. And then when Roger Schmidt told me the same thing when he was coaching PSV, I was even more stubborn. I liked playing on the left wing.
But at the last World Cup, I was already playing in the centre and I've been playing in that position for Liverpool for the last six months. I enjoyed it. Now I want to grow in this position at the club and in the national team.
At first, it was difficult in Liverpool. Then Klopp told me what he wanted from me. At first, of course, it takes time to get used to it, but in recent months I have enjoyed playing in this position," said Cody Gakpo.
