Hans-Dieter Flick: "The Ukraine national team punished us for every mistake. And they did it swiftly".

Germany head coach Hans-Dieter Flick analysed yesterday's friendly against Ukraine (3-3).

"The start of the game was relatively easy for us, it seemed even too easy. We scored a goal relatively quickly, then it felt like everything was going great for us. But then the opponents began to punish us for every mistake, and they did it quickly - our defence was not up to the job in those situations.

We know that we have a lot of work ahead of us, that we started a global process, so we need to correct those mistakes in the next games and defend more reliably.

I've coached a lot of teams, including as an assistant coach. What I see in our training sessions is at a very high level. But the team loses confidence relatively quickly, so we have to work on that as well.

We are building the team piece by piece. To this it is desirable to have wins. In any case the way we are going is a little bit more difficult than usual. But I believe in the team. Right now it is vital for us to win.

We are in the process of transition to a different system for the game. It didn't work in a lot of situations today, and we made some individual mistakes that we shouldn't have made. We have to work on it all as a package. We know that it is a long process.

It is important that the team showed a mentality, but we have to work on the mistakes. In particular, today the problem was the realization of chances. At the same time, in the match against Ukraine, I think, there were enough positive things," Flik said at the press conference after the match with Ukraine.
