Volodymyr Brazhko, the midfielder of Kyiv Dynamo and the Ukraine national youth football team has summed up the results of yesterday's match against Romania (1-0) in the 2nd round of Euro 2023 (U-21).
"As for the nervous start to the match, our opponents ran forward thanks to the support from the stands. It was expected, because we were playing against the hosts of the tournament. Nevertheless, we got a bit carried away with the situation. But then we regrouped, and the game was already under our control.
The head coach asked us to control the ball more, to shift our attacks more between the flanks, because under those circumstances the opponents failed to keep pace with our moves and left wide areas behind. In the end, we did: Kaszczuk had three one-on-one chances. We had to do it more.
We could have scored earlier, but our performance let us down. We created a lot of chances, but if you have implementation, you have it, so eventually we scored. Yes, only in the 89th minute, but that's football - it happens.
In the last round of the group stage we play against Spain - this is a top team (Ukraine and Spain have already guaranteed themselves access to the quarter-finals, and the result of the encounter will determine who of the teams will finish in first place, and who - in the second one, - editor's note). But we will fight to stay in our game. Of course, we want to take first place in the group," Brazhko said in his commentary to Suspilniy.
