"This is my farewell message to the MU fans. I want to express my unwavering gratitude. We have achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I felt incredibly proud every time I put on this shirt, to be captain of the greatest club in the world - an honour that only a few lucky players get to do.

It was an unforgettable and successful period in my career. I never thought that we would be able to achieve such results after leaving Madrid as a boy. Now is the best time to take on a new challenge, to try myself again in a new environment. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will always be in my heart," David De Gea wrote on Instagram.

We would like to add that David De Gea has been defending the colours of MU since 2011. During this time, he played 545 matches for the team.
