UEFA announces a new tournament

As part of the cooperation between UEFA and CONMEBOL, the confederations have announced a new tournament called the Challenge Cup.

The new tournament will consist of a single match between the winners of the Europa League and the South American Cup, the second strongest continental competition.

Interestingly, in the event of a tie, teams will not play extra time but proceed directly to a penalty shoot-out. At the end of the match, the winner will get a new cup and medals.

The Challenge Cup is scheduled for July 19, when Sevilla Española will face Ecuador's Independiente del Valle. The game will take place at Sevilla's home ground of Ramon Sanchez Pixuan.

The first leg will be named after former Sevilla player Antonio Puerta XII, who died in 2007 at the age of 22 following a cardiac arrest.
