Barcelona president Joan Laporta has commented on the situation regarding the failed Lionel Messi transfer.
"We had authorisation from La Liga to draw up Leo Messi's contract. This is something that was discussed with his father and everything was agreed. Everyone wanted him to come back. We didn't want what happened to us last time. We were going to tell Messi when we were in financial fair play.
Some time later, when everything was already agreed, Jorge Messi spoke to me and said that Leo had chosen Inter Miami because he had spent some very difficult seasons in Paris, where he was under a lot of pressure. At Inter Miami he would feel more at ease. Even though Leo wanted to move to Barcelona, he didn't want to spend another year that way. We didn't speak again.
We wish him success in Miami and Barcelona is his home. It's a relationship that ended when he went to Paris, it was rebuilt without achieving what both parties wanted. You have to ask Messi. We wanted him to come after Xavi. That didn't happen," Laporta was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.
