The day of Dynamo's first home match

17 July is a landmark day in the history of Dynamo Kyiv. This date is the starting point in the history of Dynamo's matches in Kyiv.

Back in 1928, Dynamo Kyiv played its first matches. On 1 July, the future dominator of Soviet and Ukrainian football lost away to Bila Tserkva 1-2, and on 17 July of the same year, Kyiv hosted Odesa teammates at the Red Stadium (now the NSC Olimpiyskiy, called the Red Stadium from 1924 to 1935).

The guests' team was considered stronger, with several players from the Ukrainian SSR national team in the Odesa team. The match turned out to be quite nervous, with a lot of fouls and even clashes. Kyiv lost and won during the match, but in the end it ended in a 2-2 draw.

A number of historical sources refer to this match as Dynamo's first officially registered match, although it is known for certain that this friendly was preceded by a game in Bila Tserkva.

Five days later, Dynamo won their first victory in history, beating the capital's Radtorgsluzhbyvtsi team 8-1 in a friendly match.
