UEFA reacts to participation of Crimean clubs in Russian championship

UEFA reacted to the fact of the debut participation of Crimean clubs (Sevastopol and Rubin-Yalta) in Russian competition, namely in the second league of the FNL (the third division by rank).

"We are now assessing the situation, especially in light of the 2014 decision to ban Crimean clubs from participating in competitions under the auspices of the RFU and the creation of a 'special zone' in Crimea until further notice. We are in contact with the RFU and the Ukrainian Football Association," UEFA TASS quoted UEFA as saying.

Recall, after Russia's occupation of Ukrainian Crimea, FIFA banned teams representing the peninsula from taking part in any Russian tournaments. To support football in Crimea, FIFA allowed the creation of the Crimean League, under which local clubs were allowed to play football matches.
