One of Spain's most successful footballers of the last 15 years, David Silva, has announced the end of his sporting career after it emerged that he had torn knee ligaments.
"Real Sociedad announced yesterday that the footballer had injured his left knee during a training session. According to Spanish newspaper El Largero, "the ligament of the left knee has been partially torn, forcing the midfielder to end his career early." He will turn 38 next January and the prospect of surgery and then six months or more of recovery looms ahead.
David Silva spent 10 years at Manchester City and was part of Roberto Mancini's team that won the league title in 2012. It can be said without hesitation that the Spanish playmaker played a crucial role in building the golden era of City, currently managed by Josep Guardiola. In 2020, when the Spaniard left the club for Real Sociedad, he had over 400 games in all competitions to his name.
