It's official. Under the new Regulations, UPL clubs will pay for VAR themselves, even if the appointment comes from the UAF

According to the new Regulations, UPL clubs will now pay for VAR themselves, even if the appointment for a match of the Ukrainian Championship comes from the UAF.

As stated in the UAF's official document on the "Regulations on the Procedure for the Application of the VAR System in Football Competitions among Professional Teams for the Competitive Season 2023/2024", in order to play a match with VAR, UPL and PFL clubs must send a corresponding application no later than 9 days before the date of the match.

If a sufficient number of applications have not been received from UPL clubs, the relevant UAF commission independently decides on the appointment of VAR for UPL matches for which no applications have been received from clubs. Therefore, the clubs are obliged to make all necessary payments for the use of VAR and for the arbitration of video technical officials of the match.

If the number of applications received exceeds the number of VAR systems (vans) and their capacity to cover matches in a particular round of the UPL, this commission independently decides on the appointment of VARs for such UPL matches. In this case, the clubs are also obliged to make all the necessary payments for the use of VAR and for the arbitration of video technical officials of the match.

The Commission has the right to independently make a decision and appoint VAR for individual matches of the Ukrainian/PFL Cup at the expense of the UAF, as it deems necessary.

Previously, the UAF itself paid for VAR at matches chosen by the UPL. Clubs paid only if they ordered the system additionally for their matches.
