Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih head coach Yuriy Vernydub commented on his team's 3-1 victory over Zorya Luhansk in yesterday's match of the Ukrainian Premier League Round 2.
"Firstly, the weather conditions were not very suitable for football. It was very hot for both teams. But what I saw on the football field, my guys looked good. It was immediately obvious that they were well prepared physically. We conceded a quick goal again, on the 4th minute, just like in Oleksandriya. But they reacted well to it: they did not put their heads down, but went forward.
We were looking for chances at Zorya's goal, and we had opportunities. Fortunately, we used our chance at the end of the first half, when we also earned a penalty, which was clearly converted by Maksym Lunev. And after the break, Kryvbas had a complete advantage: they scored twice, but could have scored even more, there were enough chances, and they missed a penalty, but that's just the way it is.
In general, we did everything today to celebrate our first victory in the championship. I think today's game was the best since I have been the head coach of Kryvbas. In all respects: the pattern of the game, the thinking.
For the first 10-15 minutes we were somehow confused... In addition, the heat made itself felt. But then we gathered ourselves and from about the 20th minute we started attacking well, turning on the high pressure. We did not allow Zorya to work with the ball calmly, because we knew that they had good performers. And in the second half, the game changed completely, we had a total advantage in terms of play and ball control. This proves that we have worked well at the training camp and the team is physically ready," Vernydub said.
