Al Nasr Arabian forward Cristiano Ronaldo could be penalised for celebrating a goal in the Arabian Champions League semi-final against Al Shorta (1-0), according to Press Italy 24 News.
The Portuguese team won thanks to a penalty kick converted by Ronaldo in the 75th minute of the match. After Ronaldo's goal, the footballer crossed himself. In Saudi Arabia, public expression of Christian faith is prohibited. At the very least, the player will receive a warning from the club's top management.
Praying or displaying objects or symbols related to the Christian religion in public places is considered an offence punishable by, among other things, arrest. Anyone who does not abide by these rules is accused of religious proselytising. Former Al Nasr player Juan Pablo Pino was arrested in a shopping centre because of a tattoo of Jesus.
However, the chances of the authorities treating Ronaldo in the same way are almost nil, as he is by far the most valuable and prolific asset in Saudi football.
