Guardiola won his only UEFA Super Cup as a player in 1992, when Barcelona beat Werder 3-2 on aggregate in two matches. He then went on to take the trophy twice with Barcelona as a coach. The first time was in 2009, when the Catalans defeated Shakhtar Donetsk with a minimum score. The second success came two years later when the blue-granates beat Porto 2-0.

In 2013, Guardiola took charge of Bayern Munich and almost immediately won the UEFA Super Cup with it. Munich defeated Chelsea on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time.

Ten years later, Guardiola won the trophy for the fourth time as coach and Manchester City became the 25th club to win the UEFA Super Cup.
