"I have always thought about moving. At the end of last season, I felt that it was time to take this step. I felt very good in my body and my injuries were over. Change is always hard, but sometimes it can be the best decision.

After the previous two seasons, when I felt really good and didn't play the position I wanted to play, I felt like an animal in a cage. I just want to be free to play to my heart's content," The Times quoted the 27-year-old as saying.

It will be recalled that Chelsea sent Ruben out on loan twice - to Fulham and Crystal Palace.
