Former goalkeeper and now coach of the Ukrainian national team Rustam Khudzhamov spoke about his footballer son.
- As far as I know, your son plays at Benfica. Tell us about his progress. What position does he play?
- Yes, he does. He plays as a striker, but last year he started talking about goalkeeping.
- Genes.
- Yes, but I discourage him a little bit, because I don't want him to have the goalkeeper's fate. Success? He is nine years old and success is already getting into a team of this level and playing with high-level opponents. So, in my opinion, it's great. How will it go? It's too early to say, but he's trying.
- In years to come, when, God willing, your son becomes a star footballer, whether as a striker or goalkeeper, will he play for the Ukrainian or Portuguese national teams?
- I'm setting him up to play only for the Ukrainian national team. We are now trying to make sure that all programmes, films or cartoons are in Ukrainian. So that he understands, speaks and feels like a Ukrainian. He is very worried, as are all my children, and there are three of them. And they try to help Ukraine somehow with their pocket money and donate to all the good causes. I think they will always be Ukrainians.
