To change the course of the match, the coaches decided to make substitutions.
In the 69th minute, Verona made a triple substitution, bringing on J. Mbula, K. Ngonge and M. Folorunsho to replace M. Djuric, F. Bonazzoli and R. Saponara. Empoli responded with a double substitution. In the 70th minute, M. Cancellieri came on in place of S. Spendi and F. Caputo replaced R. Piccoli. Just five minutes later, Verona managed to break the deadlock. In the 75th minute, F. Bonazzoli put the ball in the net, giving his team a crucial advantage. As time ticked away, both teams made further substitutions to strengthen their positions. In the 78th and 86th minutes, Empoli replaced L. Cacace, A. Grassi and E. Ekong with G. Pezzella, L. Henderson and E. Gyasi, while in the 89th minute B. Amione and J. Doig replaced O. Duda and J.D. Cabal. Despite Empoli's best efforts to equalise, Verona held on to their lead and secured a hard-fought victory. The final score of the match remained 0-1 in favour of Verona, much to their delight. The exciting match between Empoli and Verona showcased the best of Serie A football. The match was filled with excitement, skill and tension. Both teams fought valiantly, but in the end Verona won, while Empoli had to rebuild and reflect on their performance.
