Throughout the summer, the Nerazzurri had been negotiating the transfer of the 30-year-old. In the end, the Milan club pulled out of the negotiations after rumours emerged that Lukaku was also dealing directly with Juventus. Now, Jose Mourinho's Roma are being called potential suitors for the Belgian striker, who is keen to leave Chelsea.

"Lukaku has left behind a lot of disappointment. Where will he go? Now the options are getting narrower and narrower as the transfer window is less than two weeks away. I have my doubts that he will return to Italy, he doesn't have enough time to complete his transfer," Marrotta said in an interview with Radio Serie A.
