Perseverance paid off in the 52nd minute when Casemiro equalised, much to the delight of the fans. Nottingham Forest attempted to get back on track with Scott McKenna replacing Moussa Niakhate in the 57th minute, hoping that fresh strength in defence would help them regain control of the game. However, their hopes were quickly dashed as Joshua Worrall received a red card in the 67th minute and was left ten men down. Manchester United seized the opportunity and earned a penalty in the 76th minute, which was confidently converted by Bruno Fernandes. The stadium erupted in cheers as the home side made a stunning comeback and took the lead for the first time in the match. Both teams made a few late substitutions in an attempt to get things going in the decisive minutes. Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi replaced Chris Wood, while Danilo and Andreas Elanga replaced each other. Towards the end of the match, the tension in the team increased, leading to more penalties. Manchester United's Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes, as well as Nottingham Forest's Cheikhou Kouyate received yellow cards in the final minutes of the match.
