Borussia Monchengladbach suffered a disappointing defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in a Bundesliga home match played at Im Borussia-Park. The second half started and it was clear that Borussia Monchengladbach needed to change something in order to get back into the game.
On 67 minutes, a double substitution was made: N. Ngumu and F. Neuhaus replaced R. Huck and R. Reitz respectively. However, Leverkusen continued to dominate. In the 53rd minute, Boniface scored his second goal of the match, further consolidating his team's advantage. In the 69th minute, the visitors made their first two substitutions: J. Frimpong was replaced by Artur and E. Palacios by R. Andric. In the closing stages of the game, both teams made further substitutions to freshen up their line-ups. On 79 minutes, Borussia Monchengladbach brought on T. Chwankara and F. Honorat, replacing G. Ranos and J. Borges-Sanchez. At the same time, Leverkusen made their third and fourth substitutions: O. Kossouna and J. Hofmann were replaced by J. Stanisic and A. Glozek respectively. In the final minutes of the game Borussia Monchengladbach and Leverkusen made one substitution each. For the home team K. Itakura was replaced by L. Ulrich, and for the visitors V. Bonifacius replaced G. A. Puerta Molano. As a result, Bayer Leverkusen scored a comfortable victory with a clinical and disciplined performance. This result will surely serve as a wake-up call for Borussia Monchengladbach, who need to regroup and learn lessons from this match in order to progress further in the Bundesliga.
