In the La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid showed some terrific football that ended in a 7-0 victory. This substitution did little to disrupt the rhythm of the game, as just a minute later Nacho Molina scored another goal, increasing Atletico's lead to an astounding 3-0. Rayo Vallecano's frustration poured out in the 39th minute when Ivan Palazón received a yellow card. At halftime, the team attempted to rebuild with two substitutions as Pierre Cees and Oscar Trejo came on in place of Uche Lopez and Raul de Tomas respectively. At the start of the second half, Rayo Vallecano hoped to turn the tide, but Atletico Madrid had other plans. In the 49th minute, Pablo Barrios received a yellow card, adding to Rayo Vallecano's list of grievances. "Atletico" continued to dominate the match and made new substitutions in the 68th minute with Yannick Carrasco and Rodrigo de Paul.
Their impact was felt almost immediately when Alvaro Morata scored his second goal of the match in the 73rd minute, ruining any hopes Rayo Vallecano had of getting back into the game. Rayo Vallecano's frustration was compounded when Andres Espino received a yellow card in the 81st minute and was replaced by Pablo Chavarria in the 82nd minute. Atletico's onslaught was not going to stop and in the 84th minute Morata netted a hat-trick to bring the score to an incredible 6-0. Marcos Llorente then added salt to the wound by scoring in the 86th minute. At the end of the match, both teams received yellow cards, with Mario Hermoso being cautioned for Atletico Madrid and Ionut Balliou for Rayo Vallecano. The final score of 7-0 was a testament to Atletico's dominance throughout the game. Although the result was disappointing for Rayo Vallecano, the fans got to see some spectacular attacking football from Atletico Madrid. The victory not only strengthened their position in the league, but also served as a powerful reminder of their championship aspirations.
