Famous Ukrainian coach Ihor Zhabchenko has shared his expectations from the confrontation between the national teams of Ukraine and England in the selection for Euro 2024.
Igor Zhabchenko- As far as I am concerned, signing a peace agreement will be a positive result for the Ukrainian national team. However, in recent years, the English are on the move, they are considered one of the strongest teams on the continent and they will be the favourites for tomorrow's match.
- In your opinion, what tactical scheme should be adopted by the manager of our national team Sergey Rebrov?
- Our guys will have no chance in an open-goal game, the British use space very well. That is why we should play cautiously, with an eye on the rear. It is desirable to avoid infringements near their penalty area and corners, as the visitors are unrivalled masters of top-flight duels.
- We have to state that the leading players Taras Stepanenko, Andriy Yarmolenko, Mykola Mykolenko have problems with game practice.
- Yes, the support zone is especially worrying, because we do not know what form Stepanenko is in, and he is the only one who plays skilfully in selection.
- What do you expect from our forwards?
- It is difficult to give an exhaustive answer, because the level of preparation of Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk does not allow them to compete with the powerful English defence. Roman even at the club level has problems with getting into the centre-back position, while Artem looks unsure in international matches.
- Who will score then?
- I hope more for our midfielders, that some of them will have their sights set on the goal. Also, home tackles when playing standard positions can bring dividends. But the main thing is to try to keep our possession intact. Then we won't lose for sure.
